I've been meaning to do this one for awhile, but it's never been urgent. This week I finally got around to it. My CB-1 has no front cockpit instruments, just an opening in what would be the panel into the space forward. A passenger could put things there, but it wasn't useful for baggage during solo flights because things might fall out:
I made a new door and frame for it out of a piece of 1/8" mahogany plywood that a buddy had for a Minimax repair that he never completed. Two coats of clear shellac, then mounted it in the plane. The combination lock (from Amazon) is pretty cool, it fits in the same hole a standard keyed lock does, but no fumbling for the key, and you can latch it without locking it if you don't spin the tumblers. I used the same type lock to replaced the keyed lock in the rear baggage space a few weeks ago. Not high security, but it will keep the honest folks out, at least. I'm pretty happy with how it came out.
