Hi all,
After 3 years of building, thinking, designing and realizing my own concept of biplane, my White-Red Hatz departed for its maiden flight on 15th May 2017. The aircraft just flies like a dream, making my childhood’s dream come through.
By now I would like to thank you all for sharing your incredible experience and knowledge here on this great forum. I think it’s my turn now to share a bit info about my HC164:
ZFW: 548 kg (pretty heavy)
MTOW: 771 kg (approx 1700lbs)
Engine: Rotec R3600 w/TBI Mk II
Propeller: Culver Prop 84x55”
Prop clearance: 12”
Wheels: 600x180mm (Yak-12)
Brakes: Beringer
Tailwheel: Scott 3200 (AB)
Seatbelts: Gadringer-Gurte
Radio and TXR: Trig
Antennas: Comant
Lights: Grimes with LEDs
Gauges: mostly Russian made: 3in1, CHT, EGT, ammeter, G-meter, clock
and AFR Innovate, MGL FF-1 w/Red Cube, low volt warning light from AS
Flight instruments: SI, VSI, Altimeter, compass, rpm, turn indicator
Ignition switch: Bendix type ED-F modified for electronic ignition
Mods vs plans:
-bigger main wheels
-shorter MLG legs- 26”
-wing-body fillets
-trim wheel
-side FWD cockpit door
-side baggage hold door
-wing walk left side only
-one piece windscreens
-fuel tank cap on the left side
Fuel tank: 93,5 liters
Stall speed: 38kts
Max cruise speed with MTOW and WOT: 90 kts @ 3050 rpm
Max static rpm: 2850
On cruise at 1500 ft:
speed: 75 kts @ 2700 rpm with fuel burn 24,1 l/h
Oil press 350 kPa
Oil temp: 95 C
CHT: 150 C
EGT: 820 C
So far the aircraft has 8 flight-hours and I still continue testing her in the air and on the ground.
At this stage I found one small leak from the fuel tank (investigating the source) and few things with my wonderful engine. I will try to write more about it later, after everything is fixed (I’m in touch with Rotec now).
Find few pictures below and link to the film. Enjoy.

Congratulations!!!
Lovely airplane! Thank you for sharing your experience , photos , and the data. I am looking forward to hearing about the engine issues, since my ship will have the Rotec as well!
I estimate my ship being 2-3 years from completion. Just finished the fuse basic structure and welding. Wings are done.
