It was a great fly-in as always but the weather was a little weird this year. Global warming my butt. It was jacket weather in July.
Here is a group photo. Look at how everyone is dressed. Jeannie Pinkerton had a blanket over her lap.
Kyle on the left and Dave came up in Claude Jochems Hatz from Oklahoma. They stayed at my place and we had a great time. Lots of fun. They were kind enough to let me fly their hatz into Brodhead so I got to say I arrived in a Hatz. Pretty cool
Jeannie dressed for the show. She is a great lady and a strong Christian. Fun to be around.
Mark Lightsey and his lovely wife
Rick Hansens lovely wife Shauna. Please forgive me if I am butchering the spelling
Although Rick was unable to bring his newest Hatz to the fly-in, here is a link to a short video of it...

Tiny and Clifford. Always great to see the Hatz family at Brodhead.
Gotta run. Will try to do more later.

Ok. I am now sitting at 37000 feet in the back of an airplane, on the internet. How cool is that?
Mark Lightsey at Oshkosh
Mark Taylor at the show as well with his Hatz.
An unexpected random act of kindness that really blew me away. Mike, a professional photographer that often comes to Brodhead from California, shot this last year, and gave me a 11x14 glossy this year. Very very nice of him. I will frame this and put it with the other shots of Mehlins Hatz. (Wow, its really bumpy here, maybe the internet at 37000 feet is not so cool after all)
Mark, Jim and Jeannie, Jeff and Daughter Jen, Ro and Herb
Jeff Moore and daughter Jen. Jeff makes all the gatherings and is a great supporter of the Hatz group.
It is not on the plans but without a tie down ring you have to do this.
Better to do this

Neat data plate
Note the baggage door
Nice clean line of screws - all lined up
Again, nice sheet metal work
Overview - Lightsey
Piano hinge does a nice job on the gap seal. Ailerons are lighter and work better like this
This is a plans hinge. Works fine but the piano hinge above is better
Note the single hand hold in the center. Makes entry a little challenging.
Mark Taylors Hatz with two hand holds. Much easier to get in and out of.
Dual tail wires are a common mod for the 0-320 engine Hatz. Not 100% necessary but seems to help tail shake. The 0-200 Hatz don't have as much tail shake so this mod is less common.
This is Mark Taylors' cockpit. Beautiful woodwork
Nice dedication
Note the door. Really helps entry. Nicely done
Nice touch on the hubcaps
Mark Taylors very nice Hatz
GPS antennae
I like the old fashioned latches

I must be hypoxic. I can't remember whose Hatz this is. Sorry.
During the annual meeting. Note the sweatshirts and jackets......IN JULY!
Same
Jim Pinkerton giving the treasurers report. Jeannie has fallen asleep. Haha
The meeting
Meeting.
Rick Hansen. Get well soon my friend, so you can fly that beautiful Hatz.
Hatz originally built by Bill Schlapman with a LeBlond engine. Re-engined now
Hatz I got to fly thanks to Dave Foley and Kyle. Great flying, classic Hatz. Thanks Dave
This is why we did not leave Poplar Grove to go to Brodhead on Friday. It pretty much rained all day with low menacing clouds
More low clouds. We sat in the Hangar and visited pretty much all day. Still fun.
Cindy Conner. What a neat lady. I asked if she had a sister......
Dave, Cindy, Kevin, Kyle
At the BBQ joint
Looks like thats about all I have folks. I am sorry for mistakes and misspelled names. This is a great group of folks and it is always a pleasure to see you all each year. God Bless you and Lord willing I'll see you next year.
Hope this helps
