2013 Flying wire group order

Post by stearmoth »

Hi Classic and CB-1 builders,

As expressed in another thread, we are interested to set up new group order for Hatz Classic and CB-1 flying wires. At the moment we are not aware if there is or can be ordered different wire lengths for those Hatzes, but we would be intersted in a a.s.p. deliverey for a full set for our Hatz Classic. We would buy them trough Steen Aerolab and all participants would be billed individually by them. Our wires would be shipped to a firm in North Carolina , which would then ship them back to Switzerland in their container. For us it would be much better priced to go the group way, rather than place a single order at Bruntons directly. By the way, can anybody confirm, that the wire lenghts given on the Makelan Classic plans are correct?

So, please Hatz builders make notice if you are interested in another group order (if somebody else would prefer takeing the lead, no problem).

Best regards

Mark,
You'd have to contact Dave @ Steen Aero for individual prices. He's the U.S. distributor for Bruntons who makes the wires. The only pricing we ever received was for a complete set as that is what most folks are ordering. You could probably order your wires whenever you need them. The advantage for being part of a group order is for the price break on a complete set.

Is there a price for the group order? I might like to get in for a Classic.
Does this include the wires inside the wing or just the flying wires?

The wires inside the wings are drag/anti-drag wires and are NOT included in the order. You could certainly order a set, but when we organize one of these group efforts it is just for the flying wires. The last group order was late in 2011. Below is the email from Dave @ Steen Aero with the quote from 2011:
Hi Nick,

The current pricing for 1 Complete Set of Flying, Landing and Tail wires complete
with SS Terminal Assemblies for the Hatz Classic is $4028.40.

If you can locate a minimum of 4 additional builders, this will meet the criteria
for a group order of 5 sets and your cost per set will be reduced to $3116.12.
If you have 10+ total builders, Bruntons will provide additional savings.

Even if the builder is years away from completion, he will require these wires at some
point in the future and the cost will be more expensive even with the group order discount
as nothing of value is declining in cost.

Kind Regards,
David

I would be happy to take part in a group order for the Classic.
Please let me know what is required.

Ed, Nothing is required at this point aside from a realistic verbal commitment :) Seriously though, until we have at least five builders (classic or CB-1... doesn't matter) there isn't much else to do. Last time I believe we had around 7 folks and a couple dropped out and we ended up with 5. So let's see if we can get 5 or more. If so then we can contact Steen Aero and get it moving.

I'm still building ribs, so years away. Just wondering, how much room do the wires take and can they be stored for a few years? Ed, just saw you have a page of photos. I'll check it out later. Mine: http://imageevent.com/hatz

The wires come in a heavy duty cardboard tube about 4" or 5" in diameter and about 9 feet long.
