CB-1 propeller
Have decided to go with a metal prop on my Hatz. I don't know a thing about props but would like go with metal and round tips on an 0290-D2. Anyone have any ideas about a brand and model number? I called a prop shop but they need more information. I know there are many props that would work. I think I would like a standard prop, not a climb or cruise, something in between.

Re: CB-1 propeller
I would think Sensenich could tell you something. Their chart at Aircraft Spruce only shows one metal prop for an O-290.
It's 74-56 for standard and 74-54 for climb. It's for a PA-22 which has an empty weight pretty close to a CB-1.

Re: CB-1 propeller
I'm using a Sensenich wood prop on my O-290-G (O-290-D)..... 74 X 54 and get about 90 mph @2350.... but I can't get to 2700 red line so I believe it's a little too much. I did have a wood 74 X 52 and got 85 @ 2350 and could get to 2700. I know these numbers are for wood and not metal but it gives you a starting point.
Sensenich has a website where you can get more info on their metal and wood props: http://www.sensenich.com/products/browse/14.
Hope this helps.

Re: CB-1 propeller
Kevin,
I'm using a Sensenich 74/56 on an 0-320 150 HP. I'm over pitched, I know, but I get better gas mileage that way. I turn 2200 at cruise and see 100 MPH (GPS). I'm kinda running in 5th gear. Climb is still good. Best pitch would be about 52" to 54", I'd think.

Hi Kevin,
You have quite a few options. Most Sensenich props I think are square tips, of course for experimental you could have them rounded at a prop shop. I think McCauley made round some tips. Here is a list of metal props for O290's from McCauleys and Sensenich application guides that are online.

Re: CB-1 propeller
GEEE! Thanks guys! I really appreciate the input. Sensenich has a 76AM-52 for an 0290-D2 which has round tips. Props with square tips are way more common. I'm doing to look into a 74DM 54 to 56 pitch and possibly have the tips rounded at a prop shop. Thanks Herb, I will first look into the options from McCauley. By the way, I have the wings, rudder, elevators covered and the fuselage will be done this week-end. The center section and horizontal stabs to go then on to stitching and tapes. Enjoying the fabric work a lot. Thanks for all the help.

Re: CB-1 propeller
Hi Jerry,
209(b) Edo 89-2000 floats and water rudder in accordance with Edo Dwg. 14390 or 69470. None of these restrictions apply to an Experimental-AB aircraft. The combination of a certified engine/propeller will allow a 25 hour test period, a non certified combo will require 40 hour test period. Some certified engine/props combos have a restricted RPM range, which would be a safety concern. Herb
