It's official

I've been working on my ribs for awhile now, which one would assume qualifies me as being a Hatz builder.

Today, however, I have officially received my baptism under fire as a TRUE builder.

I got epoxy in my hair. (well, what's left of it at least....the hair that is) :D

Is it as much fun to remove as "proseal"? I can't list all the places that stuff has gone.

Did you buy all the wood for the airplane? The reason I asked is, I have to buy wood next and am dreading going through all the plans to build a material list. Would like to get it all at once and save shipping. Would like to mooch off someone elses work and get a list.

Burned my wrist the other day... tacking the fuse and forgot the tube was still "warm"...

Hate to admitt it but I have lit myself on fire (or at least "smoldering") a couple of times, by leaning against a recent weld to reach the next weld. For those of you who have not done so, the clues are a general feeling of warmth and the smell of burning fabric. It sort of sucks!

I come in from the workshop with a large smoking hole in my shirt and the wife just shakes her head and walks away. Good thing I get lots of shirts for Christmas.

How about using your belly as a hard point with which to push the welding rod against to slide the rod up a little in your hand...that is, the HOT end of the rod! Stupid! It left a little round burn that felt like it was a bullet hole. Do I qualify for the club?

You might be officer material!

To tell the truth, I did that once too. Sure does make you feel dumb.

Welcome to the club.

Whoa!! I forgot I have yet to build things with fire!

Guess I've got a lot to look forward to!

well I know I'm late to the party, but I just couldnt believe that I was not the only one who has set himself on fire! I feel so....validated. I'm not even sure how I did it, but had been welding and like others, sorta felt all warm and smelled smoke. looked down and the front of my favorite shirt was on fire. Still my favorite shirt, but I can only wear it in the shop now. All this time I've avoided wearing it because I was a little embarrased. Now I cant wait to start wearing it again since I realize its a right of passage! Thanks guys!

Does this qualify?

Standing on a box to reach a tight spot to install a nut behind the header fuel tank. Use left hand, Make big stretch about to elbow, hook wrist watch on protuding object, can not retrieve arm, cell phone 30 feet away on work bench. Pull for all it is worth, can not unhook or break metal band. Time goes by, time goes by. Getting tired of standing on box. Dog comes by for a visit, no help. Car drives by. Try screaming. no help. time goes by, time goes by. Wife comes looking for lost husband. Big help, runs to get son. Son arrives, reaches in from other side and un hooks watch band from protruding object. Make son and wife swear to never tell any one.

Lesson learned - keep cell phone close at all times.
